Stephanie Kifowit learned the value of hard work and financial responsibility early in life. Growing up in a working-class family in the western suburbs, she worked multiple jobs as a teenager — to support herself and pay for the things she needed. When her mother divorced, leaving them struggling financially, Stephanie experienced firsthand what it meant to make tough choices and stretch every dollar.
At just 17 years old, Stephanie joined the United States Marine Corps, serving proudly from 1990 to 1994. After her honorable discharge from military service, she worked to pay her way through college, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Science degree through public university, followed by a Master’s in Public Administration with a focus on organizational development and government finance.
Stephanie then put her education to work in the private sector, working at First National Bank in Private Banking and then Morgan Stanley Dean Witter as a registered financial advisor. In those roles, she helped families make sound financial decisions and plan for secure futures — experiences that would later form the foundation of her career in public office.
Stephanie Kifowit doesn’t just talk about accountability — she wins elections and delivers results. She won her first race for Alderman by just five votes in a competitive primary, then went on to win the general election. Since then, she has been elected to the Illinois House of Representatives multiple times over more than 12 years, proving she can build lasting coalitions while staying true to her principles.
Now, Stephanie is running for Comptroller because as higher costs squeezing families, small businesses, and retirees, we need leadership and experience to protect every taxpayer dollar. Stephanie knows what it means to work hard, live within your means, and make tough choices, and she'll bring that same discipline to managing Illinois’ over $100 billion budget with transparency, integrity, and accountability.
